Weather Webquest for Fourth Graders


Cantiague and
Jackson Elementary Schools need 4th grade meteorologists to publish newsletters on severe weather conditions.

The Task For Fourth Graders Is:

You will be pre-assigned a weather topic from the below listed severe weather conditions. You will gather information in the computer lab using the websites below. You will be creating a one page newsletter using “Microscoft Publisher” that will include this information.

1. A description of your disaster

2. What causes this disaster

3. The effects this disaster has on the environment and or people

4. How to prepare for this disaster

Listed below are the disasters we will be researching. Please remember you will be researching only one these disasters.

  • Hurricanes
  • Tornadoes
  • Blizzards
  • Thunderstorms
  • Floods

Your information will be recorded on a data collection sheet which will be given to you at the start of this project.

The Process:

1. You will be researching and taking notes on weather topics to become informed meteorologists.

2. You will be assigned one severe weather condition to create a one page newsletter. You will be using weather data that you have gathered using pre-selected websites and video clips.

3. Fourth graders will learn about the normal weather patterns of our area, and also severe storms that occur in the United States including hurricanes, tornadoes, blizzards, floods, and thunderstorms. Students will also learn how to be prepared for extreme weather.
